- Bio
- Adam Bumby is Professor of Geology at the University of Pretoria (UP). He completed his honours degree in Geoscience at the University of St. Andrews in the UK in 1994, before moving to South Africa, gaining his MSc is 1997 and PhD in 2000, both from UP. He joined the academic staff in the department of geology at UP in 2003, and served as head of Department from 2018 to 2023. His research has largely focussed on the structural control of the development of sedimentary basins within the Kaapvaal Craton, and elsewhere in the African continent, including the history of deformation of Africa within the context of the Gondwana supercontinent. He is currently involved with understanding the geological controls on natural/geogenic hydrogen occurrences within the Kaapvaal Craton, as part of the HyAfrica project, which aims to find sources of natural hydrogen in South Africa, Mozambique, Morocco and Togo, and to determine how readily any hydrogen resources could be exploited to the benefit of local communities. https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8146-316X
